The food was quite good as was the service. Shout out to Peter. He was so nice and the food came really quickly. Favorite dishes: dumpling soup and 红烧肉.
I actually think that with a few updates to the decor, this could be such a destination and bring in way more people as a hangout spot.
Disappointed is an understatement. I came here a few years ago and remembered the food to be quite good, ordered the crispy duck ramen again and tried the mapo tofu and both were just horrible...
The mapo tofu was $16.95 and the only flavour was salt and oil. There was barely any pork and was so bland.
The crispy duck ramen ($19.95) was the one i was excited for since it was good when i had it a few years ago, but it was also terrible. The duck was crispy but very rough and dry, and clearly not fresh. The noodles were hard and soup also salty, the fish cake in the soup was spoiled and had a sour taste. When the Whole Foods ramen taste better than this it is a bad sign...
It should've been a red flag when we were the only asians in the establishment and their menu is all over the place (they have sushi, thai, chinese, cocktails..etc)
The service is also slow as there is only 1 server and the place is very dimly lit. We left still hungry and utterly disappointed for the price we paid.
So on a layover felt like Chinese and googled this spot. 10/10 had the shrimp pad Thai and salt and chilli squid. Clap Clap Clap. Food was amazing, taste was top tier and it hit the spot. Thank you.
Lovely neighborhood spot with truly authentic Chinese dishes! I was impressed at the quality of the food and menu. They have quite a few specialty Chinese dishes and the Chinese eggplant with garlic sauce (鱼香茄子) was really well made!
Servers are always wonderful and kind - particularly Peter. Sometimes you need to call them to get their attention but that's also the nature of a neighborhood spot - I'd rather that than have someone hovering.
Shun's is also very accommodating of nut and gluten allergies - they are able to make modifications and substitutions with no problems.
Prices are a little bit higher than what you might see in Chinatown, but still far better than what you'd find at other South End spots nearby.
This spot is always a bit empty, and would love to see it fill up!! There is also an exceptionally well-stocked bar - imagine the possibilities.
Hope you get a chance to enjoy Shun's soon!!
Authentic Chinese restaurant🍜
Dan Dan Noodles 5/5 - fried noodles with pork and spinach, they added spicy oil in the noodles, but it’s not that spicy 🌶
Hong Shao Rou 5/5 - super recommended pork dish!! One of my fav Chinese dishes👍🏻 it’s a must order😍😍
Fried Calamari 5/5
Boy Choy with Garlic 4/5
Overall it’s a 5 stars!! The price is a little higher but I’ll say it’s worth it. I recommended people order different dishes to share, and remember to order rice with it! 🍚
Had a great experience at Shun's Kitchen. Was there with a big group in their downstairs room and the one bartender/waitress took great care of everyone. The sushi & sashimi are very good, nice pieces of fish, no complaints. The miso soup is very good, a little heartier than at lots of places (more seaweed, tofu, green onion). The pan fried veggie dumplings are also great, ramen was very good. Great spot.
The food is awesome. Sushi is fresh and so tasty. The basil fried rice is top-notch. The vibe is chill. The staff is very attentive and service is very good. Great place for a quick meal or a longer engagement. I almost forgot, the miso soup is so good I usually get two.
The food was acceptable to be honest. The disappointing part was that they charge a blanket 18% service fee. And we received some impolite lecturing from the waiter just for simply asking about that
